Well, this film is unbelievably freaking stupid, but boy was it a fun watch, and what a great material for a punching bag this is.
The first Mortal Kombat in 2021 is quite a treat for being a dumb fun watch with the biggest issue being the OC character that no one cares for that returns here. Mortal Kombat II has a dumb plot with dumb characters, dumb story, and dumb things happening in it, but that's what makes it so much fun, and it's even more fun when I do something else with this film.
Nothing much to say on the plot. The Outworld has won the Mortal Kombat championship nine times, and in the tenth one, they will conquer Earth. So, they grabbed one more fighter in the form of Johnny Cage played by Karl Urban playing a withered and aged action movie star that is definitely way past his prime, except Johnny Cage found out that the fight for the world is a real one, and he really couldn't be bothered to do it, but he has to do it anyway because Mortal Kombat dictates that he does.
I love Mortal Kombat II so much because in terms of brutal action film released in 2026 starring Joe Taslim (as Bi-Han being Noob Saibot this time instead of Sub-Zero), this film is a coughing baby to the hydrogen bomb that is The Furious. How can the fantasy action film that focus so much on blood, gore, and fatalities less brutal in comparison to the realistic action film? The Furious will give you a way better fix if you want a brutal action film that is relentless, unstoppable, filled with blood and gore, and starring Joe Taslim, Indonesian represent.
But putting that aside, Mortal Kombat's plot is never really good. Mortal Kombat 9 is the closest that they can go for a "good" plot, but even then, it's still dumb. Regardless, this film is at least still a fun watch. It's just not one of those fun watches that are worthy of your time. I can tell you what's worthy of your time that also stars Indonesian represent Joe Taslim, and that is The Furious. Go see that instead.
