The priestess has really good defense and solid offense once you get the third whip. The shield magic also helps tremendously against the last boss.
I kept losing time grinding one extra level at the begging of the game, once I stopped doing that I ended up with much more wiggle room in terms of time on the clock. The only grind spot is at the rock men and spiders until you get to level 10. After that the rest of the level ups will come by normal play.
