Wondering if Busan is worth adding to your tight South Korea itinerary? Don't skip the coastal capital just because you are short on time. In this video, I want to show you exactly how to cover the absolute best of Busan in just 2 days and 1 night without burning out your family or breaking your travel budget.

Many travelers hesitate because of the 3-hour KTX train ride each way from Seoul. It's easy to think you should just wait and plan a longer standalone trip down the road. But if you are traveling from the US, long-haul international trips only happen every few years—so why wait another 3 years to experience a place you've been dreaming about?

Getting a first impression of Busan right now gives you the exact blueprint you need to plan future family adventures. From exploring the hills with a local guide and riding the famous Haeundae Sky Capsule to unwinding at the luxurious Spa Land, we walk you through our exact 48-hour route. Stop overthinking the transit, grab your train tickets, and make those memories today!

FAQ
Q: Did you find that spending six hours on a round-trip train ride was too exhausting for just a short weekend stay?

A: I completely understand why it looks daunting on paper, but for us, it didn't feel exhausting at all. The KTX is incredibly smooth and quiet, so those three hours down and back actually gave us a nice, built-in window to just sit together, look at the countryside, and rest our feet. When you realize that the next opportunity to visit might be years away, those few hours on a train become a very small investment for the memories you get in return.

Q: I noticed you warned against the face-to-face quad seats on the train. Why is that?

A: Unless you are traveling with a group of close friends or family who really don't mind sharing personal space, those face-to-face seats force you to overlap your legroom with whoever is sitting across from you. It can get a little cramped and awkward on a three-hour ride if you're trying to stretch out. Booking the standard directional seats gave our family a lot more room to relax comfortably.

Q: Is it difficult to handle meals on the KTX if you're traveling during standard breakfast or lunch hours?

A: They don't actually sell snacks or drinks on board the train anymore, so you definitely don't want to show up empty-handed. What we did was arrive at the station about forty-five minutes early. Seoul Station has great bakeries and bento box options, so we just grabbed our breakfast and drinks there to enjoy at our seats once we boarded.

Q: Why did you choose to hire a local day tour instead of just using the subway system on your own?

A: Busan is a beautiful city, but a lot of its most famous spots are built right into the cliffsides and mountains. Trying to navigate multiple transfers, steep hills, and then figuring out short taxi rides between subway stations with a family can eat up a lot of your limited daylight hours. Having a local tour take care of the driving eliminated that stress completely and let us focus purely on enjoying the sights.

Q: Was Spa Land a good choice for a family activity at the very end of the itinerary?

A: It was easily the absolute best way we could have wrapped up our time there. After two days of walking, stepping into a facility that clean, modern, and spacious felt like pure heaven. Just keep in mind that they do have an age limit requiring kids to be at least seven years old to enter, but if your kids are old enough, soaking in those hot springs together leaves everyone refreshed and ready for the train ride back north.
