Opera House Arts commissioned a "children's opera" musical version of the 1964 book, "Burt Dow, Deep Water Man," by award-winning author Robert McCloskey. This classic Down East tale brings together the legend of Burt, based on a true-to-life Deer Isle mariner, with the Bible's Jonah and the whale story. Book, lyrics, and music by Maia Aprahamian. Premiered in 2010 at the Stonington Opera House under the direction of Joan Jubett, with music direction by Peter Szep.
