Long before Burgundy became synonymous with the world’s greatest wines, the monks of Cîteaux laid its foundations. Through centuries of meticulous observation, they shaped the understanding of terroir that gave rise to the Climats of Burgundy, now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today, 145 of Burgundy’s most celebrated domaines come together to honour that legacy. Their support extends beyond preserving a historic monument: the Définitoire was the heart of a visionary model of collective governance that influenced the Cistercian Order across Europe, while the monks’ approach to viticulture continues to shape winegrowing around the world.
