I do not only make music with just hardware synths, there are some other projects that differ quite significantly from what I do with BURG .. and for those projects, I regularly use a DAW.
I am a big fan of Nils Frahm and have listened to his music for some time, learning last year that native instruments had made a software version of the prepared piano Una Corda he designed together with piano maker David Klavin my brain started thinking.. I need to get one of those, I just love the sounds and artifacts/mechanics it could produce.
After a year of pondering, I decided the other day to pull the trigger when NI announced the Komplete 11 discounts. There were some useful software that I could incorporate into the other non BURG projects AND at the same time getting my hands on the Una Corda, win!
What you see and hear is me playing the piano plugin live using the waldorf blofeld as MIDI controller over USB, with kontakt/una corda running in my cubase 8.5 artist DAW. Soundtoys little plate is the effect I am using, modulation turned on and pretty long decay.
The Blofeld is a bit weird to play piano on, not sure why since the keybed is really great... I think I need to get my hands on a proper 88 key weighted keyboard because I really miss playing "the piano". It might need that tactile feeling, even though the keybed is epic on the blofeld, it is still not the right thing for velocity, as sometimes i tend to hit too hard.
There are also some weird sync issues with the video, i tried to adjust the audio/video frame by frame but it sometimes feels its out of synch, and then it just gets back into sync. I think my mind is playing tricks with me.. maybe the shadows or something makes it look weird. Not sure what it is, I hope that it's not too weird to watch :D
And yeah, the BURG is all about the hardware.. so dont despair, there will be more proper synth jam sessions as usual in the future.
I hope you can enjoy this one.
BooOooM!
