Destiny 2 NEWS: More Insider Reports tell how Bungie operated a D2 on very tight margins, all while spending its profits on things which did NOT benefit Destiny. The indication is that Destiny was rarely profitable but possibly the bigger issue, is that Bungie wasted an insane amount of cash in the second half of the franchise life cycle and unfortunately, those investments didn't pay off (Bungie Insiders Speak out.. again)
