Does Bengaluru need to re-think vertical urbanisation v/s linear development for its future growth and ease of mobility?

As Buro Happold celebrates an incredible milestone this year, 50 years in business, we hosted a series of debates in key cities across the world.

Our founder Ted Happold brought together representatives of many persuasions within the construction industry in a non-adversarial manner, in line with his own Quaker background. These debates are designed to be a forum for meaningful and open discourse on key issues within the built environment.

Our first event entitled ‘Building Bengaluru’s future - vertical city or linear expansion?’ in partnership with the UK Department for Business and Trade, brought together leading voices in urban planning, infrastructure and business as they explored Bengaluru’s next chapter.
Bengaluru stands at a crossroads - should the city continue to rise vertically to meet its growth ambitions, or is it time to explore a more linear model that promotes sustainable mobility and equitable expansion?

Thank you to our hosts Deepak Chotwani, Jyoti Gandhi and our Buro Happold India leadership team Amit Deshmukh, Abhijeet Kulkarni, Ashish Deshpande and Krishnendu. Mukherjee.

Special thanks to our speakers including Suresh Singaravelu, CEO at Prestige Hospitality, Jinoos Shariati, First Secretary Trade & Investment, India and Nepal at the British High Commission in India and our panelists Anil Hira, Debanjan Bhattacharya, Shobha Regunathan, Sundar Chandramouli, Naresh V Narasimhan, Shaifali Singh and Kanwal Sujit for an enlightening and engaging inaugural debate.
