VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In this episode of Tiny Home Tours' truck build series, Abe and Mel are wrapping up the final punch list as they bring their Ford F550 expedition truck to completion. With the bathroom door installed, electrical system set up, and plumbing running smoothly, it's time to tackle the highly anticipated feature wall and finish the motorcycle garage—two key elements of their full-time living setup. If you're considering building your own custom RV or expedition vehicle, this video is packed with expert tips, design ideas, and practical advice to help you create the off-grid home of your dreams.
Feature Wall Design Inspired by Norwegian Churches: Abe and Mel were inspired by the cedar shake shingles seen on Norwegian churches and have adapted the design for their feature wall. They sourced kiln-dried planks from WoodPlank.com, ensuring durability as they travel through various climates. By cutting the planks at 60-degree angles and staining them in golden oak and black, they’ve achieved a modern, rustic aesthetic that ties the entire interior design together. This unique feature wall adds character and warmth to their truck home.
Motorcycle Garage & Removable Bed System: For the garage area, Abe and Mel opted for vinyl sheet flooring—an affordable and durable alternative to traditional garage flooring—allowing them to allocate funds toward other areas of the build. The garage is fully dedicated to storing their motorcycles, a priority in this build. Above the garage is a removable bed system, constructed with aluminum square tubing and 2x4s for support. This system maximizes storage space while providing a cozy, stationary sleeping area with a Zinus Green Tea memory foam mattress.
Pass-Through Installation for Safety: They also installed a pass-through between the cab and the box for emergencies, using an accordion boot to connect both spaces without compromising the structure of the truck. This feature ensures they can safely move between the cab and living area whenever needed.
Capping Off the Build with High-Tech Comfort: In terms of comfort, the couple installed a multimedia system from CarpuRide that includes Bluetooth, CarPlay, and a wireless backup camera. This plug-and-play system enhances their driving experience, providing convenience on the road while making their travels more enjoyable.
Stylizing & Final Touches: The final stage of the build focuses on styling and finishing touches. Abe and Mel added custom shelves, completed the painting, and brought in decor to give their home a cozy, personalized feel. The minimalistic black, gray, and wood tones blend beautifully with green plant accents, creating a modern rustic vibe throughout the living space.
