VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

In this episode of Tiny Home Tours' truck build series, Abe and Mel dive into the most critical systems for off-grid living—tackling a powerful solar and electrical system from Signature Solar, setting up a comprehensive plumbing system, and installing a beautifully simple shower. With the help of Kevin, Rob, and Signature Solar, their off-grid dream is coming to life as they build out a robust electrical system that will allow them to stay powered up for extended periods on the road. If you're planning to build your own RV or tiny home, this video is full of insights and pro tips to help you get started!

Massive Off-Grid Power System Installation by Signature Solar: Abe and Mel are serious about living off-grid, so they partnered with Signature Solar to install a high-powered electrical system. Their setup includes two EG4 lithium batteries (800 amp-hours total), a 3000-watt Victron Quattro inverter, and 1000 watts of Signature Solar Grape Solar Panels mounted on the roof. This allows them to run their RV's electrical system—complete with outlets, USB ports, and appliances—without being tied to shore power. Additionally, they’ve installed a second alternator to charge the batteries while driving, giving them extra freedom to travel wherever they want, whenever they want.

Running Wires & Planning Outlets: After installing the cabinets, Abe and Mel begin running wires throughout the truck for easy access and future maintenance. They've planned carefully to include outlets at key spots, like their desk, dresser area, and kitchen, ensuring they have power for working remotely, charging devices, and running their appliances.

Comprehensive Plumbing System for Full-Time Travel: Water is a key resource for any full-time traveler, and Abe and Mel have set up a system designed for reliability. Their 42-gallon freshwater tank is paired with a SeaFlo 3.0 GPM water pump and water accumulator to provide steady pressure throughout the RV. They’ve also installed a water drop filter to ensure clean water, no matter where they fill up. The system is designed to switch between releasing gray water directly or into a gray water tank jug for easy emptying.

Hydronic Water Heater & Efficient Heating System: For the first time, they’re using a hydronic water heater and heating system recommended by Rob. This system uses coolant from the truck’s engine to heat water and air, making it highly energy-efficient. The heated coolant circulates through a heat exchanger, providing instant hot water for their sink and shower. Additionally, it doubles as a heater for the living space during colder months, pulling minimal power and fuel.

Shower Install & Vinyl Sheet Flooring: The RV features a dedicated shower area—something not always included in smaller builds. Kevin constructs the shower walls, and instead of using traditional tile, Abe and Mel opt for a simple and effective red guard membrane with vinyl sheet flooring. This method is budget-friendly and waterproof, and the black and white design adds a modern touch. To top it off, they install a matte black shower head and valve, which ties into the overall sleek aesthetic of the build.

Ogo Composting Toilet: Abe and Mel also install the Ogo Origin composting toilet, a huge upgrade from previous models they’ve used. It features an electric turner for composting material and a waterproof cover, allowing them to keep it in the shower without needing to remove it. This simple system is perfect for full-time living and off-grid adventures.

Custom Bathroom Door & Final Design Touches: Kevin wraps up this episode by building a stunning custom bathroom door made from pine boards, inspired by a door Abe and Mel saw in the Northeast. The rustic, stained wood complements the modern aesthetic, creating a beautiful focal point for the interior. With all the utilities installed and the bathroom coming together, their off-grid expedition truck is truly turning into a home.

Next Time on Tiny Home Tours Truck Build: In the next episode, Abe and Mel tackle the final punch list—installing the feature wall, loading up the motorcycles, and completing the last few touches on their incredible tiny home on wheels. Stay tuned to see the full transformation!
