In this video, I will show you how to build a low-cost xenon light source with an optical fiber for spectrometry. I use an H7 xenon bulb and the necessary ballast from the automotive sector. You can build the whole thing without a metal lathe or mill, but you should have some manual skills. The optical fiber is made of a special PMMA that also transmits UV light. Ordinary PMMA is suitable for wavelengths from 300 to 900 nm. The xenon light source is a sub-project of a larger project—the construction of an HPLC.
