Daniel Lubetzky, founder of KIND and the Builders Movement, on why the oppressor-versus-victim framework strips young people of agency — and what he'd replace it with.
He calls it one of the most dangerous frameworks ever handed to young people, for a simple structural reason: if you're the oppressor, no action can redeem you, and if you're the victim, you have no agency to fix anything. Either way you're stuck.
His alternative is builders versus destroyers, and he chose the words deliberately. Destroyers divide, demolish and diminish — split people across identitarian lines, tear down because they can't build, and work to make other people feel smaller. Builders do the opposite, using what he calls the four Cs: curiosity, creativity, courage and compassion. The Builders Movement runs channels in Hebrew, Arabic and English pulling over a billion views a year, and Daniel is clear about the point: not telling people what to think, but how to think. As he puts it, most people aren't unwilling to contribute — they feel powerless.
