First, build a RAG chatbot that answers questions about a specific domain — legal documents, medical research, anything. Then deploy it and get real people using it. RAG sounds simple, but making it reliable in the real world is much harder than it looks. Second, build an AI agent with tools — something that can browse the web, call APIs, create files, and interact with its environment.
Put these on GitHub, deploy them, write clean READMEs, and be able to explain them in an interview — and you're already ahead of 90% of applicants.
