Legend of Hyrule - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Piano Duet with Myself Ryan Z Piano Guy 2022-07-02 | The Entire Ocarina of Time Soundtrack for Piano: youtu.be/6XjZE2_mYaEHa I'll be the first to admit that this piece of music does not sound the best as a piano cover! 😅 But an interesting one to do nonetheless! For the ostinato I actually used the MIDI and footage from two separate takes. Even though it was a few days ago I can't remember the details as to why I had to do that, but they lined up pretty similarly given they were set to the same tempo. With all duets with myself especially in this case, I had to do a little rhythm adjustment to make sure the beat was lined up. I started practicing it in early 2021, but I never could settle on an arrangement I was satisfied with. Finally starting a month ago, it started coming together in a way the I was excited to share with the world -- and let me tell you, it ended up being an absolute banger and a certified jam! Since that revamp, I've been redoing all my old videos in the newer synthesia format. One problem though. For this arrangement I felt like my improv didn't do the cover justice. I was even a little embarrassed about it. Arranging for jazz piano is not my thing. So what did I do? I reached out to one of my all-time favorite YouTubers @hesangasong to collaborate with me, and see if he could write an improv to replace mine. And oh boy did he deliver! In typical Mario fashion a lot of the overworld themes are done in jazzy ragtime fashion. This did not sound complete at all with only two hands so I took the liberty of playing a duet with myself! In fact this piano version sounds more peppy than the OST! Song of Healing but its a little much... The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-08-25 | I really poured my soul into this one! Koji Kondo's musical genius shows in this simple tune. It really does have some incredibly deep level of comfort in healing to it, and I can't quite pick out where it comes from. It fits Majora's Mask so well; even in an apocalyptic setting that tune makes you like everything will be alright, despite everything bad happening. I hope this cover may bring peace to you all despite whatever demons or challenges you are facing right now. Know that it will be all right, just hang in there. I stole a lot of harmonic elements from A Link to the Past, especially when I start changing up the chord progression. Die hards, see if you can pick it out:) I also may have a lot of Kyle Landryisms in my arrangement. Hateno Village - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-07-29 | I love this peaceful theme! It's encompasses nostalgia and reminds me of a warm sunny day. But alas, for some strange reason this theme took me SO LONG to get down pat, and is one the reasons why I haven't been pumping out TotK covers yet. I focused so much on trying to record and get it out, but I kept failing. For some reason it was so hard! But now I can move on. Another reason I've been taking my time with TotK covers is I'm still exploring and playing through the game. For example, I was inspired by the Hateno Village Election theme and added a portion that sounds similar to that. There are several covers where I've had a similar experience and I'm glad I've been taking my time. But for those who are curious, I have one temple left and about 116 shrines, so I'm getting there! I also played with a call and response theme the second play through during the B theme. I thought it turned out well! My early childhood 😭 So excited for another generation to experience Yoko Shimomura's music! I still wasn't prepared to upload a Tears of the Kingdom cover, and I got tired of the lack of uploads so I used the Nintendo Direct as a reason to do a quick upload. In fact, I think I'm going to supplement my Tears of the Kingdom piano cover fix this summer with Super Mario RPG uploads. Korok Forest - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-05-28 | I took notes from the most recent poll and pushed this theme out first! What a fun cover to play from the new game Tears of the Kingdom (and Breath of the Wild). I start off the cover being bright and bouncy, and then the second time through I play it in a more calm and peaceful setting, as if it were night. The night OST is slightly slower and in a different key , but I was okay with what I played. It's a much more smooth transition. I even put a hint of TotK's Korok Forest's gloom theme in there somewhere:) Thanks for being patient with me, I have a lot going on right now, including playing and doing research in TotK ;) I'm holding off on doing any spoiler covers for the time being; I have already been spoiled from other covers on YouTube ironically. Boss Battle - The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-05-11 | So despite my best efforts I didn't prepare a Tears of the Kingdom cover in time for the release tomorrow... I'm sad. But Majora's Mask is one of the best Zelda games, so please accept this cover as tribute instead! I was working on this in the background, learned it extremely fast and happen to get it near performance ready around this week. What a theme! I never knew that most of this theme is in 7/4! It also switches up from 5/4, 6/4, 4/4, 11/8 and 7/8 so the meter is kind of all over the place. Love the driving rhythm, the energy is so seamless between time signature changes. A fast paced 7 beat meter is an excellent way to create energy.Total transparency, after post-recording and into the editing phase I noticed I somehow misplayed the 3rd chord of the cover in the right hand a half step lower than it should be, so I tweaked it up a half step. I have no idea how my ear did not catch that in the few weeks I was learning this, and I did not have the patience to rerecord this 😆Subscribe for biweekly uploads! Music Box House - The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-04-30 | I'm making a bad habit with these last minute uploads. I've been on a Majora's Mask kick lately; got a couple projects in the works. But this one was easier so I thought I'd get it out since it's been a couple weeks from my last upload. I love the emotions I felt originally playing this game. In a way it was my first exposure to older adult themes such as trauma and healing, and you really connected to the characters because of it. I stole a page out of clocktown's third day and added an ominous bass to represent the struggles Pamela and her father are having in the Music Box House. Sector X - Star Fox 64 Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-04-16 | Change of pace for this upload, throwing it back to the 90s to Star Fox 64! Probably won't get the most traffic. I have some bigger projects I'm currently working on, but I have some fun pieces I'm working on the side. Wanted to do a special cover for the SUper Mario Movie but it's not ready. It's nice to take a break from a little Zelda now and then, especially considering I'm going to be going full speed ahead with Tears of the Kingdom coming out soon.I love how this piece emulates what space would feel like in my opinion: mysterious, unsettling and dangerous. Lower Norfair/Magmoor Caverns - Metroid Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-04-01 | I had the hardest time trying to figure out what to name this cover considering it's both Lower Norfair from Super Metroid and Magmoor Caverns from Metroid Prime. Generally I go with the OG but Metroid Prime Remastered recently came out, so I almost settled on that. In the end I tried my best to give credit to both. Love the energy that comes with this piece and the rising chordal progression. Hearing this music you know stuff is about to get real haha.I haven't played any Metroid until a couple of years, but holy smokes I can see why this series is critically acclaimed. I feel the nostalgia without even playing it before. Like a lot of other people I started playing Metroid Prime Remastered, so I felt inspired to tackle another Metroid cover. Calamity Ganon - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Piano Duet with Myself Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-03-18 | I love the power that comes with this piece! The consistent thumping of the bass register, the crazy modular and dissonant harmonies; this duet really showcases the piano's orchestral power! Some of you may know I already covered this theme, but I'm redoing it in this top-down format. Plus I used a metronome this time so it is much more in rhythm. Some of you may be wondering where Dark Beast Ganon is, and yes I will probably start working on that in the spring. Probably concurrently with Tears of the Kingdom covers:) I have another big project and collab I want to finish and get out of the way before I once again take on such a challenging and foreboding task. I hope you all appreciate these piano duets, because THEY TAKE SO MUCH WORK. Planning them out, the arranging, forecasting how to edit and of course, the actual recording attempts. I recorded it in two parts because I had to change the tempo of the metronome for both phases. Also hours into editing I realized I was missing a couple of really important notes, so I inserted them in post-recording. This was supposed to be an improved and updated version of my previous cover and I didn't want to go back and start all over. Let me know if you aren't a fan of that practice; I felt the work to fix that smaller error just was not worth the time to be honest. Also in post production I found a note that I didn't hit, and I don't know how it got there! But I doubt you will find them. The Mandalorian Main Theme for Piano Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-03-05 | First off, I have to give credit where credit's due: this arrangement is mostly based off of Patrik Pietschmann's masterful cover. While other arrangements are more true to the soundtrack, Patrik's is custom-crafted for piano, and he did a stellar job! Most of the time I do my own arrangements, but once in awhile I'm so impressed with a cover I have no desire to arrange my own but to learn someone else's for my own personal enjoyment; this is one of those times. However, I do play it slightly differently. I added an abbreviated intro, and I also improvised the ending. Patrik's cover is designed for a more slower, deliberate speed, but I play faster and true to the soundtrack's tempo. Not easy! I also made some slight adjustments to his arrangement, but I doubt anyone can point them out. Ambient Temple Music - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Piano Medley Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-02-24 | The Entire Ocarina of Time Soundtrack for Piano: youtu.be/6XjZE2_mYaESo I thought I did the final cover for Ocarina of Time, but by request I did end up doing these. I was not looking forward to doing them, but I thought the music was significant enough that I felt something would be missing if I didn't include them in my finished soundtrack. Background noise music is hard to convert to piano! The Forest Temple turned out much better than I thought it would! I wasn't happy with the Fire Temple, I don't know how you convert that kind of chanting/moaning (depending on which version of the game you played) into piano music. So I spent very little effort on that. The Shadow Temple also turned out better than I thought it would. Kinda weird, kinda something atonal or 20th century sounding for you music nerds. Kiss the Girl - The Little Mermaid Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2023-01-14 | Took a little swim in Disney again 🐠 This cover was so much harder than I thought it should've been! It took me over 5 hours to get a single good take! I also found this song hard to translate to piano with everything going on, all the overlapping instrumentation and independent voicing found in the movie. But I think I did a great job considering what I had to work with! Also, I kind of ad libbed during the bridge, I wasn't very true to the movie. So much going on, and on top of all of it the time signature is in 23/16! Like who does that? What kind of sick prank is this Koji Kondo? Took me quite some time to get it down for the most part. Zoras Domain - The Legend of Zelda Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2022-11-04 | The Entire Ocarina of Time Soundtrack for Piano: youtu.be/6XjZE2_mYaEThis is to date the most enjoyable cover I've learned to play. Two reasons: it feels good on the fingers as well as the amazing upbeat vibe the music gives off. The syncopation hits home both in my fingers and to my ears! In my professional opinion the Breath of the Wild version is by far the superior rendition out of the versions, it has so much energy behind it. Not to mention it's meant for piano 😁 I also finished out softly with the original version to keep you OGs happy ;)Thanks for being patient. This cover was being requested way back in 2021, and probably not the back half of the year either. It took such a loooong time to learn for some reason. I had to get down all the little syncopations and really get intimate with the nuances of the arrangement. Trust me, this popular Zelda cover has been on my radar for awhile now! How many OG subs out there remember this? I take a darker, spooky twist the rather light-hearted but still spooky tune found in Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. Notice the slowly descending chromatic scale first played in the highest C down to pretty close in the middle register. I thought it added a spooky effect. Forsaken Fortress - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Piano Cover Ryan Z Piano Guy 2022-09-16 | Even though I was supposed to take the week off in celebration of uploading weekly for 2 years straight, I couldn't resist! 😂 Don't worry, I put practically no effort into this cover and didn't stress out at all. The only thing I was stressing out on was how simple and basic the music sounds, I was afraid to upload it at all! Oh well. I just pulled out the sheet music and recorded without any practice! But I did listen to the bells and sirens, and I tried to incorporate that at the end of the piece. Not to mention the little jingle when Link gets thrown in the dungeon! Undertale (OST 071) Piano Duet with Myself Ryan Z Piano Guy 2022-09-09 | Undertale 071 - Let this cover take you through all the feels! This was requested a couple times, and I finally got around to it. I love how with this simple tune Toby Fox conveys everything is falling into place and that everything will be alright. The six minute build-up gives me hope and fills me with determination! I promise I get around to my fan requests, it often just takes awhile. This cover is my longest yet, and I needed a lot of time set aside to get it record it right. Super Mario Bros. 3 World Piano Medley Ryan Z Piano Guy 2022-08-12 | I'm on vacation! I went from the USA equivalent of Desert Land to Grass Land, where I grew up! I recorded these 8 snippets before I left, and then I edited on vacation. Some of the variations in the tunes are my own doing, some to represent the NES version and then reference the SNES version. For example, with Grass Land I play the NES version first and then play an octave lower just like the SNES version. Some interesting things I recently learned doing this: Water Land's melody is the same as the Fairy Fountain theme from Zelda, and 'Water Land' and 'Sky Land' are oxymorons. They are simple themes, but very nostalgic.
