rctestflight | Brushless R/C ROCKET Vertical Landing Test #2 - RCTESTFLIGHT @rctestflight | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
Previous video of this electric rocket: youtu.be/zrONFl19QlI
Testing different configurations on the brushless rocket. This time I removed the foam body, causing it to free-fall much faster and making re-gaining stabilization coming out of a free-fall much more difficult. The first attempt was using only the lower motor and thrust vectoring fins for control. I'm confident this would have worked if I had wayyyy more altitude, but I raised the throttle pretty late and the control fins did not have enough authority to bring the rocket upright. The second attempt was with the quad thruster motors re-installed on the nose, and they helped a lot. Despite being in a high speed free-fall, the rocket reoriented itself and slowed down in just a few seconds.
