explanation of the flashback sequence: the ghost of Roselle (Steele's half-sister) started appearing to Steele when she was 14 and tells her the truth about how their father murdered her. This, combined with abandonment from her mother & her village, spurred Steele into a rage. Roselle being level-headed tried to stop Steele, but she ultimately burned down the village, killing her mother and getting rid of Roselle in her apparition form, although she remains as part of Steele's guilty conscience throughout her life, leading to her inner conflict about manipulating Mel into working for her as a criminal.
