As the nation experiences its worst wave of COVID-19 infections, many have pinned hopes on the search for a safe and effective vaccine that will help stem the tide on an out-of-control pandemic. University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is one of the clinical trial sites for the Pfizer vaccine, which recently reported promising data showing efficacy as high as 90%.
Brooks Jackson, MD, MBA, the vice president for medical affairs at the University of Iowa and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, discusses the latest updates on the UI’s COVID-19 vaccine research.
Dr. Jackson is responsible for integrated planning and operations for University of Iowa Health Care, which includes UI Hospitals & Clinics, the UI Carver College of Medicine, and UI Physicians—the state’s most comprehensive multi-specialty physician group practice. He is the leader of Iowa’s only comprehensive allopathic medical school, with the mission of inspiring and educating world-class health care providers and scientists for the people of Iowa and our global community.
Jackson, who also serves as a professor in the Department of Pathology in the Carver College of Medicine, is an internationally recognized AIDS researcher and is board-certified in pathology and transfusion medicine.
