In this first video installment, Anthony Burokas of IEBA Communications demonstrates what a smooth servo zoom offers to DSLR video by comparing tit to trying to zoom with a still camera lens.
You will see that not only does the ENG servo zoom lens maintain a hauntingly consistent zoom throughout the range, but it does so without any iris adjustments. The manual zoom lens of th still camera, despite being set manually to an f.8 (well above the telephoto minimum of f.5.6) constantly adjusts the iris opening throughout the zoom, visibly changing the exposure of the recorded image. It does this to compensate for the change in light as the lens changes focal length, but it brings all attention to the mechanics of the shot, as opposed to the subject of the shot.
