Learn Liberty | Brittany Griner Saga: Why not free Ross Ulbricht too? @LearnLiberty | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 8 hours ago.
Brittany Griner’s saga highlighted utter hypocrisy throughout the political and criminal justice systems.
Take Ross Ulbricht, founder of the website The Silk Road. He’s locked away on a double-life sentence in a high-security penitentiary in Tucson for drug charges.
Meanwhile, going by the logic of the recent prisoner swap — the United States justice system puts an enormous value on liberating someone CONVICTED OF A DRUG CHARGE. I mean, they were willing to “trade” someone they consider super dangerous — “the Merchant of Death,” Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, to free Griner.
Obviously, that Griner was arrested in the first place for something that should be legal — is a travesty, too. I’m glad she’s free.
But BOY, the American criminal justice system — again, going by its own value system — could do a lot of good in the world by freeing other non-violent drug offenders under their own jurisdiction, like Ross Ulbricht.
