On December 25th 2024, Britt Allcroft passed away at age 81. Born in Worthing, West Sussex, England on December 14th, 1943, she had gained a career in radio and television as well as theatre production. In 1979, she was making a film about British steam locomotives and met the Rev.W.Awdry at the Bluebell Railway where she had asked to adapt his books to life on the screen. Previous attempts to adapt the stories were made in 1953 and 1977 but one was a dud by the BBC and the other, attempted by Andrew Lloyd Webber, was never materialised after its pilot was made.
After gaining rights from Kaye & Ward and mortgaging her house to gain funds to create the pilot, in 1984, she had created Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends bringing the stories of the Rev.W.Awdry to life and after the show had seen major success in other countries such as the United States and Japan as well as a theme park and a film, though the latter would later turn into a flop which resulted her to step down as head of her own company. But she was still associated with the show until 2003, when the show had gained seven seasons, where she would later move to Santa Monica, California, USA.
Despite no longer working on Thomas, she was still celebrated by many people in the Thomas fandom and without her, we wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her.
Rest well Britt Allcroft. Thank you for what you had done. The Thomas fandom will miss you greatly.
