For twenty years, the British Rail network was unified under a single corporate image, the visual representation of which was a blue/grey livery that gave both locomotives and rolling stock an immediately recognisable but purposeful visage that would come to define a period of both great innovation and malaise for the British railway network.
However, while the common misconception is that BR Blue was totally uniform across the system, individual nuances and unique flourishes existed almost constantly throughout its tenure, with depots and regions still seeking their own personal flair when it came to parading the British Rail corporate image across their areas.
