Professor Helen Parr, Keele University
Membership of the European Commission and European Union was connected, directly or indirectly, to an unsettled history; Britain’s adaptation to its role in the world after the end of Empire and the changed global politics following the Second World War. In this lecture, Professor Parr will explore how Britain’s relations with Europe, and sense of its role in world politics will continue to adjust after Brexit.
Biography:
Helen Parr is Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Keele University. She previously taught in the International History Department at LSE. Her research interests are in the field of contemporary British political and social history. Her most recent work was a social and cultural history of the Parachute Regiment and the 1982 Falklands War, Our Boys: The Story of a Paratrooper (Allen Lane, 2018). Our Boys won the Templer Medal Book Prize, the Duke of Wellington Medal for Military History, the Longman-History Today Book Prize and was Longlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing.
