It was the atmospheric background percussion that made me connect these two in the first place, and it felt like I didn't have to try to hard to make them work together. Just a lot of little tweaks, but I don't know they kind of just slotted together like to pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
The original tempos are pretty far apart (Forest Temple is 96bpm, Brinstar Underground Depths is 75bpm) and I settled on 75bpm, so all the Forest Temple elements are slow, more sparse, maybe even more haunting than in the original. And they're down one semi-tone to match the Brinstar elements.
Let me know what you think, and if you have any other suggestions for mashups – particularly from older consoles, as I haven't really got to grips with more modern orchestral samples yet.
