Pixel Mixers: 10th Anniversary Album 🎶 fanlink.tv/10thBD 🎶
Happy 10th anniversary, PM! This cover was made as a part of the Pixel Mixers' new celebratory album. I also had the honor of organizing this album for the community. It's a fantastic listen, so please give the album a spin!
The origins of this track actually go back to my Memories of Old Bird original. I mentioned for that track that I debated making that track a Red Brinstar cover. Well, this is the cover result lol.
I debated what sort of lead instrument to use. Flute is the obvious pick, but I just didn't want to use flute for the melody for some reason. I knew I wanted I live recording at least, so I threw a scratch euphonium track in thinking I would replace the instrument. And then it was permanent lol. The piano with some neat reverb pretty well stayed, though.
As the track evolved, I got the mental image of a very small Chozo village along the riverbank. I was playing Monster Hunter Wilds at the time, so those villages during the Fallow season were the sort of vibes I was trying to evoke. Lots of little chimes and tinks and, of course, Metroid Prime toms lol. As I worked, I ended up including little bits and callbacks of my own 2019 (!) arrangement alongside the different official versions between Super, Prime 2, Samus Returns, and Dread.
I also thought of a little "cutscene" motif in the middle with the choir. The choral structure is based off of the Yunalesca version of the Hymn of the Fayth. I always thought it was a cool effect and wanted to try and replicate it. Fun fact, those male choirs are me! After the "cutscene", a few more instruments get added to indicate a little progression.
It was fun revisiting this source track! Hopefully the comparison here and the 2019 cover shows off my growth as a musician. Hope you and enjoy, and please give the Pixel Mixers 10th Anniversary album a listen as well!

Ahhh, Chrono Trigger. One of the most famous SNES games out there. I only played bits and pieces of this game as a kid. I remember meeting Frog for the first time in the past, but I dont remember much else. I think I played it on Playstation, so it had those cutscenes in it? Anywho, I was able to beat the whole game much later.
This song really only came together due to the lack of covers here on YouTube. I though an 8 bit sound would fit well, and nobody has done a Famitracker cover of this song here! This will remedy that :). I also took notes from Jake Kauffmans Shovel Knight songs, so there may be a hint of Shovel Knight here. With that said, enjoy this time traveling song in a past style!")

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, KIRBY! These games have some of my favorite tunes, so what better way to celebrate than to make a cover? Meta Knights battle music almost exactly matches the battle music for Ridley in the Metroid series, so not including would have been a grave mistake. I initially wanted to use FL Studio on this one, but I could not get the control I wanted with the orchestral samples I was using. Just a few too many pitch bends and crazy modulation things! Hope you enjoy, and thank you very much HAL and Nintendo for these wonderful games!")
