A children's counsellor who offered to pay a 14-year-old girl £300 for sex and later claimed it was research has been spared jail.
Brian Pead, 56, of Days Lane, Sidcup, was trapped in an online police sting by an undercover officer posing as a teenager.
The man, who worked as a therapist for a counselling agency for vulnerable youngsters, including victims of sexual abuse, in Hackney, East London, later claimed the chats were part of research for his job.
Last Wednesday, at Southwark Crown Court, he was handed a 36-month supervision order after a jury convicted him last month of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told him to attend a community sex offenders' treatment programme, placed him on the sex offenders' register for five years and imposed a sexual offences prevention order limiting his contact with children.
