Matt Ritchie has officially announced his retirement from professional football to take up a new off-field role as Technical Director at AFC Bournemouth.
In this video, I’m reacting to the breaking news and sharing my thoughts on his incredible career, with a special focus on his time here at Fratton Park.
While he might not have played enough games to be deemed an all-time traditional Portsmouth legend, his impact on the club cannot be understated.
As a boyhood Pompey fan who returned to the club, Ritchie was a vital catalyst during that grueling 2024/25 Championship survival season, helping anchor us in the division after so many years away.
Today we look back at his career journey from breaking through the Pompey academy to his massive success at Bournemouth and Newcastle United and say a proper thank you to a player who always gave 100% for the badge.
