BREAKING: Gardaí silent after cruel death of elderly man reported
Four weeks after we reported the death of our elderly neighbour in appalling circumstances, we have heard nothing from the Gardaí.
On 10 January Sean, Isaac and Jemima Burke spent over 40 minutes in Castlebar Garda station reporting the recent death of our elderly neighbour in Mayo University Hospital to Sergeant Maura Hopkins.
The elderly man was admitted to the hospital with a treatable condition. He was prescribed powerful anti-psychotic drugs and sedatives including Haloperidal and Midazolam. These drugs leave patients unable to eat, drink, communicate or even see the food left at their bedsides. Our neighbour suffered terrible dehydration and malnutrition and lost his life shortly after Christmas Day.
Since making the initial report on 10 January we have heard nothing from Sergeant Maura Hopkins.
The circumstances of the death of our neighbour shocked the community. It is utterly unacceptable that the Gardaí would treat this report in such a manner.
We will continue to pursue this matter.
