A dramatic new development has emerged in the Lindsay Clancy trial as the jury remains deadlocked after more than 35 hours of deliberations.
According to defense attorney Kevin Reddington, the jury foreperson sent a note indicating that one juror was refusing to follow the judge’s instructions concerning reasonable doubt. Reddington asked Judge William Sullivan to remove that juror.
Instead, Judge Sullivan questioned the jurors individually and then reiterated the law on reasonable doubt, reminding them that the Commonwealth carries the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He ultimately declined to remove the juror and sent the panel back to deliberate.
