Just four months after a jury completely rejected a $3.9 million lawsuit brought by seven Ohio sheriff's deputies, Afroman (Joseph Foreman) is back in court—this time as the plaintiff.
The new lawsuit targets former Adams County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Newland and alleges malicious prosecution, claiming the deputy pursued a lawsuit that was frivolous, unsupported by the evidence, and forced Afroman to spend significant money defending himself. Afroman is also seeking damages for the emotional distress and legal costs he says he incurred.
The dispute began after deputies raided Afroman's Ohio home in 2022 while investigating alleged drug trafficking and kidnapping. The search turned up no drugs, no kidnapping victim, and no criminal charges. Afroman later turned his home security footage into viral songs and music videos—including "Lemon Pound Cake"—mocking the raid and criticizing the officers involved.
The deputies responded by suing Afroman for defamation, invasion of privacy, and related claims, seeking nearly $4 million in damages. In March 2026, however, an Ohio jury sided with Afroman on every claim, finding him not liable.
