In a previous video (LINK below) as a personal challenge, I wanted to try using hand held top and bottom boards for the Fire Roll. It worked easily enough with the store bought lumber, but I also wanted to make it work, on the fly, with a split branch from out of the woods. I tried 3 times with the split branch and never even got close to an ignition. Upon further inspection, I saw that the boards were not flat enough. They needed more truing and flattening. I put the boards away until today.
Be forewarned, this video is shot in the "A day in the life" style of video. It shows some rain, breakfast, clothes washing, crawlspace, etc. This is a kind of Vlog-ish take on a rainy day and trying to work on the Hand Held Boards idea some more.
The reason this had to be a 2 Parter is because the more I whittled the flat surfaces the more they got off. LOL! Then I got an idea for a different style of split boards that would take less whittling and be a lot easier to use... a cantilever design if you will. SO, I'll have to wait for these days of rain to pass before I can get back out into the woods for another branch and try it again... Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!
