Our welfare system beats people down on all fronts. From Morrison's vicious Jobseeker cuts, predatory job agencies, racist income control and attacks from the Murdoch Press — its layers of brutality are designed to keep people desperate and compliant, and line the pockets of big business.
But we're fighting back against the poverty machine.
Over five days from March 15th to March 19th 2021, GetUp members, unemployed activists, unionists and our allies took to Parliament House, social media feeds and the streets to disrupt an agenda of cruelty.
Our actions are designed to have a real impact on every aspect of the machinery of poverty – disrupting their operations, pressuring politicians, and demanding investors divest from this system.
