So I knew that Huxley's Brave New World was a chilling description of a dystopian future where the State replaced family, and pleasure was used to keep the citizenry in line... But I had no idea just how far our society had already come in terms of bringing that to life, as illustrated in the phenomenon we now know as, "Disney adults"....

“Whose face is on the coin..?”
This simple response given to the Pharisees who were questioning a young new rabbi from Galilee about whether it was right for the conquered peoples of Judea to pay taxes to Caesar, is one that is far more profound and far-reaching in depth than most people probably realize…
In those few direct words, this curious preacher from Nazareth summarized the entirety of a vast and complex Roman system of commerce, and really all kingdoms before and after who had ever minted coinage for the purposes of taxation, currency stability and more. Even back when the physical process of stamping each individual coin by hand might seem crude compared to what would come later, the realm of finance was already proving exceedingly useful in creating all sorts of clever ways by which people could oppress and exploit their fellow man.
The art of using slaves to create wealth, and using debt to create more slaves, seems to be a very ancient tradition indeed.
Yet somehow this strange trouble-maker from Galilee managed to push past all the systemic ills of slavery and usury, and put His finger right on the heart of it…
And so again, “Whose face is on the coin…?”
What happens if we allow this same question to carry forward into the economic alchemy that is our modern day Bank of Caesar…?
What insights might we discover from this Galilean’s perspective, when considering the imposing edifices of dynastic financiers, amassing fiat fortunes so great they can scarcely be appraised, enshrouded in a grand display of philanthropic legacy…?
What deeper reflections might we have, on say, that now bloated and dying creature from Jekyll Island, frantically gorging itself upon what’s left of the feast of architected inflation, before it’s belly finally bursts and some glorious Phoenix of wealth supposedly arises out of the ashes of it’s putrid entrails..???
What did Jesus mean…. When He said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and give to God what is God’s…?”
And what does it still mean for us, even today, even in the face of this grandest of “pyramid schemes”…?
Could there really be another type of debt, that is even more hopelessly impossible to be freed from, than even this ever-encroaching debt-based cage of financial fraud?
Could there really be another level of slavery, that is ultimately even more serious and tragic than any type of bondage one man can put another under…?
What if instead of just facing a monetary tax or bill that you could never realistically pay, you were faced with having to pay a price for your very soul, and that price that you could never hope to work off even if you had a thousand life times…?
What Hope could there possibly be, to pay such an astronomical, unpayable, debt…?
But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45
