In this video, part 1- first you will see my 4 guidelines I use when brainstorming. They will be in the form of slideshow/cards and then I will come on in person to walk you through the method of my madness when I brainstorm a scene . so please stay tuned !This is only my process, and only one of many ways to brainstorm. Yes, the video is on the longer side, but it is a step-by-step video tutorial of how my process looks. I will take you from a one word setting/location and turn that into a short sentence that highlights the goal of my scene, then using my 4 part process "rules/guidelines", I will turn that sentence into a better one, and then expand upon it, sentence by sentence until the goal of my scene has been identified and reached. When I brainstorm, sometimes it comes from a bullet point in my outline, and I use this process to build or bridge one scene to the next. I hope this helps.
Disclaimer, I do not consider punctuation or spelling in the brainstorming phase. I simply put the words down on paper and let my mind take over, and I just write down where ever that leads me! You can always go back and make things pretty and grammatically correct after you have fleshed out a scene. the point is, to get the words on paper. Because as we all know, you can't edit a blank page! so just brainstorm and write and throw your editors hat out the window until you have come up with your completed rough draft of a scene! That's how I do it, anyway.
