Phillipa Duncan shares her fascination on 'Embroidery on silk', 2019 from the series Light on Light, by the Spanish artist José María Sicilia (1954). It takes a contemporary take on what many people see as a revival of arts and crafts, which is embroidery. Sicilia is playing with light and colours. The layers force the visitor’s eye to zoom in, look at the detail, and consider the various levels. His artwork is presented by Meessen De Clercq at the international BRAFA Art Fair in Brussels.

Phillippa Duncan is an independent art advisor and collection manager from South Africa who started her company In Association at the end of 2013. She is also trained as a paper conservator. The consultancy is run side-by-side with the paper conservation studio which specialises in vacuum-based techniques.

Olivier Meessen and Jan De Clercq founded a new platform for contemporary art in Brussels in 2008. The gallery presents solo and curated group shows, creating catalogues in close collaboration with the artists involved.

The BRAFA Art Fair, created in 1956, is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious art fairs, famous for the high quality fine art, antiques, modern and contemporary art and design it offers. BRAFA takes place from 26 January through 2 February 2020 at Tour & Taxis in Brussels. www.brafa.art
