The international BRAFA Art Fair welcomes you to Tour & Taxis in Brussels from 26 January to 2 February 2020. Here, Bart Suys presents his coup de coeur at the art fair which is a complete Kunstkammer collection in the booth of Porfirius Kunstkammer.
Back in the Renaissance, Kunstkammers, also called curiosity cabinets, were intended to offer representations of the whole known universe, from both an intellectual and an artistic point of view. Kunstkammers were the predecessors of museums and were organized in accordance with four subdivisions: Preciosia (precious man-made objects), Scientifica (scientific instruments), Naturalia (objects from nature), and Exotica (objects from unknown countries and regions). Bart Suys adores the eclectic quality of such art installations, which is also a wonderful starting point for an art collection.
Bart Suys is active at the Fundraising and Patronage department of the Royal Museum of Art & History in Brussels. The institution comprises 4 museums: the Art & History Museum, the Musical Instruments Museum, the Halle gate, and the Museums of the Far East.
The BRAFA Art Fair, created in 1956, is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious art fairs, famous for the high quality fine art, antiques, modern and contemporary art and design it offers. BRAFA takes place from 26 January through 2 February 2020 at Tour & Taxis in Brussels. www.brafa.art
