Boxing Promoters Indicted After Fighters The two men behind the boxing event at Blue Cross Arena have been indicted following allegations that fighters, referees and other event staff were left unpaid.
Clay Harris and Derek Grambling face multiple charges, including grand larceny, petit larceny, scheming to defraud and issuing bad checks. The indictments follow months of reporting into payments from the event, including checks issued to boxers that could not be cashed.
Attorneys for Harris and Grambling, including Tully Rinckey attorney Matthew Winchell, Esq., maintain that their clients did not intend to defraud or steal money and argue that the payment disputes should be handled as a civil matter rather than a criminal case.
The defendants have been ordered to remain in Monroe County and surrender their passports while the case moves forward. Harris was also ordered to wear a GPS electronic monitor.
