Brad Lewis was the driver at the front when the checked flag flew in the 2nd race of the season for the Bowman Gray Street Stocks. He started 4th and took advantage of a mistake by the leader to get back and not look back.

The driver who finished 2nd, Chase Murphy, was disqualified and penalized for illegal tires.

Christian Joyce looked to have the race under control but with Connor Keaton on his bumper hoping to find a way to pass. Keaton made a move to pass going into turn 3 and it was too quick for Joyce or his spotter to respond. Joyce ended up backwards in turn 3.

A few laps into the next green flag run, Brad Lewis had worked up to 2nd behind Keaton and spend a few laps sizing up the number 5. He had to wait for one more restart before trying to grab the lead, finally getting a run and making a relatively clean pass into turn 1.

Lewis went on to win the race with the 18 and 7 cars close behind.

NASCAR sent off the tires of the top cars to be checked for legality, and found an issue.

They released this information on 5.6.26 -

Effective immediately, Street Stock Division driver No. 18, Chase Murphy, has been disqualified from his 2nd-place result at Bowman Gray Stadium in week three’s 20-lap race. His car was found in violation of NASCAR Local Racing Series Rulebook Sections 10.8 and 12-4.12:

“Any determination by Track Officials that the Race Equipment used in the Event do not conform to applicable specifications or have not been approved by the Track Officials, prior to the Event, or are not required for the normal functional operation of the race vehicle or have been altered to detract from or compromise their integrity or effectiveness, whether operational or not: a fine, disqualification, loss of Championship points, loss of finishing position(s) in the Event, probation, and/or suspension.”

Chase Murphy has been issued a monetary fine of $400 and docked 40 championship points for having illegal altered tires.
