Boston By Foot, an educational nonprofit founded in 1976, explores the city through volunteer-led walking tours. With about 200 trained guides, the organization covers topics ranging from the American Revolution and Boston’s architecture to literary and LGBTQ+ history, civil unrest and engineering.
Tours visit neighborhoods and historic sites across Boston, highlighting the people, buildings and events that shaped the city. The goal is to give both residents and visitors a deeper understanding of how Boston became the city it is today.
Live Like a Local takes a different approach, using food to introduce visitors to neighborhoods that often fall outside Boston's traditional tourist routes.
Founded by Roxbury native Collin Knight, the tours explore communities including Roxbury, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain through locally owned restaurants, bakeries and neighborhood institutions.
Guests sample foods reflecting the cultures that have shaped those communities while learning about their history and the people who call them home.
Knight's tours also emphasize supporting locally owned businesses. By bringing visitors into neighborhoods they might otherwise miss, Live Like a Local aims to create connections that continue beyond the tour and encourage guests to return.
