This video feels unusually personal. On the one hand, it’s just a video of me singing and dancing in a flanny. On the other hand, that is an outift I actually wear regularly, so it all feels a bit more real than when I’m completely dressed up in Boroky persona. I feel slightly naked and pathetic. Where are your whiskers, silly ratto?
Additionally, the song and video play with the fairly universally understood notion that we’re all insane in one way or another. We wish we weren’t, and often we know on some level what we’re doing wrong, but we keep doing it. Furthermore, one of my personal insanities is the (very common) belief that I’m even crazier than other people and irreparably so. So I feel like I’m bearing my soul a little extra here. Marie-Louise Von Franz talks about this sense of being unusual in some exceptional way as a symptom of the Puer Aeternis archetype.
Another point that the song makes is that a great way to make oneself insane is to tell lies. As a fallible human. who has told a whopper or two in his time (sometimes it takes years to realise you have been lying to yourself), this is an uncomfortabe idea to play with so publicly, with my face so heavily involved. And so, for me, the video seems to capture that hypocrisy, hopefully in a playful and joyful way. Still uncomfortable.
The video is also lower-effort than some of my others, so I’m insecure about that. It still took twenty or thirty hours of effort top to tail, but that’s a fraction of the time I spent on the previous ones.
Anyway, I am proud of this music video. I think it’s messy, ugly, silly, beautiful and profound and I hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics:
i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
saying it’s just the way i am
while people round me keep changing
i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
certain things are the way i am
but sometimes you gotta let people change you
willing the weather to fall over
you might even make a difference
but at what cost
at what cost?
filling the heaven with a fiendish face to end the race and chase it to the worst that it can be
how much suffering inflict thee?
we have a winner..
and i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
saying it’s just the way i am
while people round me keep changing
i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
certain things are the way i am
but sometimes you gotta let people change you
wriggling imitation, invitation to bow out
we could hit this, pay attention
we could do so much for so many or just drift about
welcome, welcome on the road
let me take your load
rest a while, weary traveller
your message in a bottle reached my cab, lodged under the throttle
made us listen
but it didn’t work
we just tossed it aside
and i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
saying it’s just the way i am
while people round me keep changing
i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
certain things are the way i am
but sometimes you gotta let people change you
don’t lie
the best advice i ever had
don’t lie
every lie you tell yourself, you tell everybody else
don’t lie
the best advice i ever had
don’t lie
and i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
saying it’s just the way i am
while people round me keep changing
i don’t wanna be strange like that
i don’t wanna be strange
certain things are the way i am
but sometimes you gotta let people change you
