The Rapier does not suck as a weapon. It is the most powerful melee weapon in the game.

That said, it absolutely does suck as a gun.

It has a heavy base damage penalty over a regular blue Rifle, which isn't great to begin with.

It is not as bad as some weapons, but it's pretty bad.
