Amazon has had a murky history with reviews. And this is because of evil people trying to game the system. So Amazon and really any retailer needs customer reviews. Every website you go to every business has a way for people to leave reviews to validate a service or product. When you go to buy anything, I’m guessing you have looked at the product reviews. So anyone selling anything on Amazon wants lots of positive reviews. Well, some people were paying people to good leave reviews for their products to up their ranking and some people were paying people to leave bad reviews for their competitors. So Amazon instituted the verified purchase designation. Amazon could see, yes this person bought this item for our website and it leaving this review. They also have teams that will flag suspicious reviews. So if you have purchased and shipped items to your family and friends and their address that is associated with their Amazon account and they go to leave you a book review, it will likely get flagged. If Amazon sees that someone is leaving you a review after some suspicious review activity it could be deleted.
All of this sound like more obstacles in your way, but it is for a good reason.
And, again, I see too many bros on YouTube or on podcasts talking about their hack to get hundreds of reviews and unfortunately, most of these hacks are against Amazon’s policies. And, it isn’t fair that this person hasn’t been caught. Yet. But I don’t want you to do these things and get your account flagged or shut down.
Here are the big dos and don’ts of getting reviews for your book:
Don’t only focus on Amazon Reviews

No payment or incentives
I know it seems like this is an impossible task, but here is how you CAN incentivize a review:
Offer a bonus chapter at the end of the book. When you send that bonus chapter ask politely for the reader to leave a review.
Or just ask them to leave a review
