Summary: Seven contestants are invited to a game at Sky Manor. To win the game, a contestant must find and unlock the vault. Many keys are hidden throughout the manor, but only one unlocks the vault. Before the vault can be unlocked, one player must.
Since all the players are connected, they all have reasons to take out the other competitors. Who will be the murderer? Who will die? Who will win? And who will realize life is more important than money?
The narration was a bit robotic with the prose at times, but the narrator did great with giving each character a distinct voice.
Positives
The story is fun and unique. It feels like Clue mixed with a treasure hunt in a manor that has a mind of its own. The story has twists, surprises, layers, and characters who are all interwoven somehow. The many mysteries make it hard to stop reading.
Every character had a motive and capacity to be the murderer, so it wasn’t obvious who would die or who committed the murder. I was able to figure out who did it, though, and I appreciated the clues.
The characters all felt distinct and unique and all had an aspect of intrigue.
The book showed that valuing life is more important than money.
Maybe a negative: I did wish the characters were described more through the whole book. The house and rooms were described really well. (But I have trouble focusing on audiobooks, so I may have just missed the descriptions.)
Overall: A mix of Clue and a treasure hunt in a floating manor that has a mind of its own.
