BOOK REVIEW: Hadley the Hippo is What She Eats by Kayla E. Green

Genre/Audience: Children's book (younger children)

My summary: Hadley the hippo is hungry! Each time she eats some fruit, something fun happens.

Positives

My kids enjoyed the book. They especially like the pictures and what happened each time Hadley ate a new fruit. They wanted to read it over and over.

The pictures were bright, weel-drawn, and fun. They helped tell the story and let the kids guess what was coming.

The book helps kids think about colors and name them.

The word repetition, rhymes, and format helped the kids follow along, recognize words, and anticipate what would happen next. It was fun to read.


Negative: The author wrote author notes about the deeper meaning of the story, but the story itself did not help the kids understand that message. They seemed to think the opposite of what the story was meant to teach.

Overall: A very cute, fun book!
