My summary: The scorch has come to Aro. Wick and Archer must find a way to save the land before the Scorch completely burns Aro.
Positives
This book ended the series in a satisfying way. It dealt with the major plot threads and gave resolution to problems and hope to the characters to move forward.
The character struggles weren’t magically resolved, but they were explored, and the progression was clear even when a resolution wasn’t which I appreciated because real human struggles continue even while progression happens.
The end made me smile.
Archer made me laugh and smile.
The characters are lovable and diverse, so they have good dynamics of challenging and helping one another.
The friendship and brotherhood are strong and realistic.
The book did dig down into deeper emotions.
Negative: I never felt immersed in this story. The book does have descriptions but not enough to gain a full understanding of what everything looks like. Also, the plot moves fast. Some important parts felt too summarized, cut short, or speed up, and it left me wondering if I missed details or if I forgot because not much time was spent on those details. And the dialogue is rapid-fire and quick-witted enough so that it often felt like I missed something. I wish more time was spent in building the world and the thoughts and emotions in the characters.
Overall: Really enjoyable book and a great end to the series
