I read one book at a time, from cover to cover. I don't DNF books. My book monogamy serves me well, mostly, as it keeps me on track, always moving forwards and looking for new experiences.

Having read The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis this week which comprises four, complete short story collections, I am wondering whether there is a better way to approach story collections. My concern is always that if I pause something in the middle, I will never return to it later because something shinier will catch my eye, but I don't know if I was the best reader for this work and I want to learn how to do it better.

I would love your thoughts and to hear particularly from people who keep a handful of books on the go at once. How do you move between them? What happens when you finish one book but you're still reading two others? Do you start a new one or go back to one of the ones you're in the middle of?

I'm not sure I can be convinced out of my monogamy, but I want to hear what works for you.
