Some other fun facts about this machine:
-The Newton's Cradle trick and the cup sequence trick were inspired from when I was messing around with my materials at college
-The cup trick was meant to be a simple trick where a cup rolls into a Knex holder that would carry it down and dispense it onto another board.
-The string on the swinging chamber was supposed to release so it would keep spinning freely but this was changed for consistency
-I constructed this machine almost a month before the event started in July due to scheduling conflicts.
-I won't lie: this machine as a whole was honestly one of the most excruciating projects I've done in a while. This is primarily a result of the unusually horrible testing process. Machines I build like this one usually fail about 70-80 times before I get a working take that I'm happy with. I did get a working take after roughly 80 fails but decided to reshoot it because I'd left a tape dispenser out and for some other minor filming errors. For whatever reason, the machine did not work again for another two days, of which I spent the entirety of testing this machine. Aside from the recurring minor "impurity" at the beginning, there wasn't a specific spot where the machine would often fail. The best way I can explain it is like rolling two pairs of dice and hoping for a sum of 12; the occurrence is unlikely but bound to happen eventually with enough tests, only for this machine was luck was at an all-time low and it took substantially longer to get that 12 for this machine than usual. Part of what made it so stressful was that the 270 fails in this machine all occurred within three days - this was a machine that could have worked at any point after the first 100 fails and I pushed myself hard to get this machine to work before leaving for the weekend. The process of building this machine was also rather monotonous - none of the tricks really excited me and a lot of them didn't turn out how I wanted them to. This occurred more at the beginning of the building process and the overall machine improved over time, but the rough start also put a damper on working on the project as a whole.
The online format also served as more of a challenge this year than it did last year - part of that being because I built my machine during a different time frame than the other builders. Nonetheless, I am happy with how the machine turned out and hoping that Domino World can occur in person next year!
