IMPORTANT CLARIFICATIONS: xb360/ps3 attackers can get as far as pulling saved info from your accounts on the system. PS4/PS5/XBX/XB1 the best they can do is pull your IP, mess with stats and settings, and crash you. You should be fine to play modern CoDs without worrying about things like malware. Note that PC technically has RCE concerns up to vanguard, but they need something called an ASLR bypass which makes it much more technically complex and unlikely to exist in the wild. Most attackers are only able to attack servers because they do not need an ASLR bypass for that.

BONUS BONUS: For the people saying "just use lan", you should understand that LAN mode on COD is still "online". Your game is still hosting a web socket to let you connect to others on your LAN and the only difference is that you are not connected to demonware. Attackers can still send malicious packets to you if they obtain your IP and you have UPNP, DMZ, or have port forwarded. Additionally, your game often will connect to demonware automatically making your game "online". Furthermore, attackers can abuse the steamapi to send you networking traffic even if you are not port forwarded and do not have a DW connection, so yeah this idea is unfortunately not realistic.
If you are a solo player, you can click "play offline" in steam and that will let you play safely (ish). Additionally, you can use the well-known "alternatives" to play offline without losing online features like gums.
