Welsh pop singer Bonnie Tyler, best known for her global power ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart," died on July 8, 2026, at the age of 75. Her family announced that she unexpectedly passed away in a hospital in Portugal following complications from an illness she had been receiving treatment.

Tyler's distinctively raspy voice defined much of the 1980s music landscape. In addition to her signature 1983 No. 1 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" written by Jim Steinman, she is celebrated for massive chart-toppers like "It's a Heartache" and "Holding Out for a Hero". Over the course of her five-decade career, she earned multiple Grammy nominations and represented the United Kingdom at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

Earlier this year in May, Tyler underwent emergency surgery in Faro, Portugal, where she had a long-term home. Although she briefly emerged from a medically induced coma and showed signs of improvement, she ultimately remained in intensive care until her death.
