Here is my production cover of Bon Iver's song "iMi"! This track features Bethany Conerly on vocals.You can find her on some of my original tracks here:

This track was especially difficult to reproduce (which is why I chose it). I used vinyl & tape white noise to emulate the cardboard scratching used in the intro of the original track. I also couldn't recreate the exact synth sound of the Prophet 6 so I used piano tracks warped through tape, foley sounds, and speeding serum LFOs. The swelling synth sounds in the intro are actually layered ambient Una Corda sounds that were volume automated. The vocals in the intro part were the hardest part. I used re-pitched varispeed vocals on Bethany's voice along with a more "metallic" reverb to capture the brightness of the original vocal but it sounded dumb. I had her sing normal because everything else sucked.
To capture the brass sounds I played a bunch of layered trumpets and layered them with the same trumpet tracks pitched down an octave. This gave off a more trombone/bassoon--ish sound which sat nicely in the mix. I then layered those with round synth brass tones from a Roland FA.

I got to use a lot of sounds I made through tape foley in this track which was really fun. I actually had more things going on throughout the track but it is already such a maximalist song I thought I shouldn't get too carried away.
