This video shows bolted column connections used in Scandinavian high-rise construction. The project is Uptown Norrebro in Copenhagen, Denmark, a build of 30 stories of residential flats, built in winter with an in-situ core and two-storey high precast columns.

When using column connections, it only takes 10 minutes to install a column and there is no need to temporarily brace the columns while waiting for the grout to cure. When the nuts are tightened, the connection is stiff and the crane can move on to the next column.

This gives you a faster and more efficient workflow on the site and saves valuable crane time. In projects using two-storey high columns, crane time is reduced by up to 50 % compared to traditionally known methods.

There is no need for temporary bracing of the columns, as column shoes and anchor bolts create a moment stiff and robust connection. This saves time and money and improves the work environment at the site thanks to omitted manual lifting of bracing equipment.

High-rise construction can be demanding to execute especially in the Nordic countries since weather conditions can have a big impact on how and when the structure can be erected. With Peikko you get a safer and more efficient high-rise construction.

Windy and cold climate conditions often stop the erection of concrete columns. It is easier and safer to handle the columns with bolted column connections under high wind speed because the connection becomes instantly stiff when nuts are tightened. Furthermore, subzero degrees Celsius are stopping the grouting process of traditional corrugated tubes inside the columns because of risk of concrete blow out due to freezing water. These risks are eliminated with bolted column connections.
